Prime Day Deals: My Top Reviewed Mini PCs

Prime Day’s coming, and I’m ready to share the mini PCs I’ve personally put through their paces. These are my top picks, all going on sale, from budget gems to powerhouse rigs. I’ve broken them down by price, with links to my full reviews. Here are my recommendations.

Sub $200 Range:

The Choice: AceMagic V1 N150:

The AceMagic V1 N150 is a very compact machine. Equipped with Intel N150, a 4C4T processor and an iGPU that is exceptionally good at video transcoding, making it a perfect match for an NVR or a media server. The Choice: AceMagic K1 7430U:

The AceMagic K1 7430U stood out in the $200-250 price range due to it comes standard with WiFi 6E. The processor is an AMD Ryzen 5 7430U with six cores and twelve threads that can handle every aspect of office and home computing needs. It has two RAM slots, though only one of them is occupied by a 16GB module, leaving room for future upgrades to 32GB. For office and home users, its 6.2 watts idle consumption is great for keeping the power bill low, and the sustained load power of 35 watts is very efficient as well.

The Choice: Kamrui E3B 5825U:

The Kamrui E3B 5825U is the ultimate office staple. The Ryzen 7 5825U inside has eight cores and sixteen threads that will handle the most demanding workload comfortably. Thanks to the efficient cooling solution, the unit is inaudibly quiet even under max load. Similar to the AceMagic K1, it has two RAM slots with only one of them installed with a 16GB stick, users can upgrade to 32GB with ease in the future. For an eight-core model, the idle power draw is just over 5 watts, with peak load power around 43 watts.

$500-550 Range:

The Choice: AceMagic W1 8745HS:

The AceMagic W1 is the most capable mini PC that I've tested to date. The Zen 4 Ryzen 7 8745HS is an eight-core, sixteen threads processor that can clock up to 4.9GHz, with a powerful Radeon 780M iGPU that shares the 32GB DDR5-5600 memory. It also comes equipped with 2.5G ethernet, which can facilitate network transfer at 2.37Gbit/s. The 40G USB4 port is also a highlight for modern connectivity that enables the option for 10G ethernet and external GPU upgrades.

Perfect For: Power users, light gaming

Why is There a Gap Between $300-500?

In this price range, there's a unconquerable candidate: The Apple M4 Mac Mini. Starting at $499 on Amazon ($449.99 at Micro Center) with 16GB DDR5 RAM and 256GB storage, it blows every competition out of the water with the performance it has. Granted, the RAM is not upgradable, and the 256GB storage seemed tiny, but the two Thunderbolt 4 ports can mediate some storage needs. Apple M-series chip is known for its efficiency, often down to under 3 watts at idle, making the machine especially quiet and cool.

On the other hand, I understand that Macs aren't for everyone, but if you are someone in the market looking for machines at this price range, the M4 Mac Mini is definitely worth a consideration.

But how about other mini PCs?

We have a goldilocks at our hands. On the one hand, the eight-core Zen 3 Ryzens are "good enough" for most people, and these machines are all priced similarly at around $300. The Rembrandt face-lift, such as the AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS, brought DDR5-4800 and RDNA2 graphics to the Zen 3 APUs with little improvement on overall system performance that I don't think it's worth the price increase over the older DDR4 Zen 3s, even graphical capabilities are considered.

The material performance improvement begins when Zen 4 APUs arrived. The Zen 4 CPU and the Radeon 780M graphics brought massive upgrades over the Cezanne and Rembrandt predecessors, making them the choice at $500-$550 price range. Also, the Ryzen 7 8745HS is a slightly lowered clocked version of the 8845HS without an NPU, which hasn't gotten much support in open source AI applications, so user may choose the NPU-less 8745HS for a cheaper unit. Nevertheless, this line of mini PCs usually come with native USB4 support, some even has OCulink that can open up endless possibilities for external expansions such as fast storage and dedicated GPUs for gaming.
